Ringgold Township, PA – A Jefferson County man is facing animal cruelty charges after police say he admitted to killing a box full of kittens.
On Oct. 6 and 7, a woman called police after she found a cardboard box on the back of a pickup truck, containing four dead kittens and one that was still alive.
Police found that the truck belongs to 79-year-old Elmer Reed, who they say told them he killed the animals because he didn’t want any more cats at his home or in his barn.
The one living kitten was given to the woman who originally called police about the box. She plans on providing the cat with a loving home and medical treatment.
The best way to help prevent overpopulation of stray animals is to make sure that your pets are spayed or neutered. The Gateway Humane Society in Falls Creek, the Allegheny Spay and Neuter Clinic in Clearfield, and the Clearfield SPCA can all help you find low-cost options. They can also give you advice on how to handle capturing and spaying or neutering stray animals in your area.
Even if you don’t have any animals that need fixed, you can always make a donation to your favorite animal organization to help cover the cost of the surgery for other pet owners.
