Eldred Township, PA – An Ohio couple had to be flown to the hospital after their SUV was struck by another vehicle when they stopped to ask for directions on Friday in Jefferson County.

49-year-old Ray McGinnis from Ohio had stopped around 3 p.m. on Fisher Road near Sigel to get directions from a person who was walking nearby.

73-year-old Gary Grecco of Fisher couldn’t stop his truck in time and rear-ended the SUV, which then went on strike the vehicle of 63-year-old Mark Robinson of Karns City.

McGinnis and a passenger in his vehicle, 55-year-old Norma Hinkle of Niles, OH, were flown to Altoona Hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

Three other passengers from Ohio in McGinnis’ vehicle had injuries but were not flown by helicopter. 44-year-old David M. Majlinger, 46-year-old Tammy R. McGinnis, and 45-year-old Laurie A. Majlinger, all from Elyria, OH, had injuries of unknown severity.

Grecco and his passenger, 69-year-old Thomas Walter of Sigel, were using seatbelts and were not injured. Grecco was charged with a traffic violation.

Robinson was using a seat belt and was not injured.

There was no information provided about the person walking alongside the road.
