Harrisburg, PA – It’s that time of year when witches, goblins, zombies, superheroes and all sorts of strange beings, of all ages, are roaming our streets in search of sweet treats. That’s why it’s so important to remain alert when you’re driving this time of year.
It can be difficult for even a sober driver to see trick-or-treaters in the dark, so you can imagine how much more dangerous it becomes when a driver is impaired.
Visit the PennDOT webpage about impaired driving and the consequences.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, from the years 2012 to 2016 a total of 7,011 crashes occurred statewide the weekend before, during and after Halloween. PennDOT data also provided a specific look at alcohol related crashes for October 31 for the last three years (2014 thru 2016). During that period 98 alcohol related crashes occurred statewide.
If you go to a party or bar for Halloween and plan on drinking, designate a sober driver, call a taxi or other ride service, or make plans to stay where you are.
