DuBois, PA – A group of men from Penn State DuBois proudly donned bright red heels and took to the streets of DuBois in a march meant to raise awareness of the battle against rape and sexual assault.
It’s called the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, and it’s meant to get more men involved and aware of violence against women. This year, nearly 40 men donned red heels and proudly took part in the march.
The men marched through campus, as well as off campus, along Route 255, and down Liberty Boulevard, then back. The round trip added up to the men walking a full mile in their pumps.
According to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) someone is sexually assaulted in the United States every two minutes. Statistics like that are what inspired some of the marchers at the Walk a Mile event.
The event was organized by the victim advocacy group Passages of Clarion, Clearfield and Jefferson Counties, in conjunction with the Penn State DuBois Office of Student Engagement.
We’re so proud of the young people in our community who take part in events like these and stand up for what they believe in, even if they’re standing a little shakily in 4-inch pumps.
