Brookville, PA – If you’re in a tough situation and need to know what organizations are there to help you, there’s one number you need to know: 2-1-1.
It’s a free and convenient way for people to call or text and get from aging services, child and youth services, counseling, education and training, food, shelter and clothing, health services, parenting, support groups, substance abuse, and more.
The United Way already has 2-1-1 services for other counties throughout the state, but now residents in Jefferson County can take advantage of it too.
Anyone can call 2-1-1, but Jefferson County is the most recent to connect people who call the number to support systems specifically in our area.
The 2-1-1 service is for things that aren’t necessarily immediate emergencies but still require help from county officials. Someone might call 2-1-1 if they fear that they’re going to be homeless, want to find a drug rehab program, don’t know how to get healthcare for themselves or their child, need to know who can help take care of an aging parent, or even if they just want to find out where they can volunteer in Jefferson County.
You can call 2-1-1 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is also an online site with a searchable database of agencies, programs, and resources which can be found at pa211nw.org.
