Brookville, PA – A Brookville woman got a scam call claiming to be from Publisher’s Clearing House, but she fortunately did not fall for it.

The scam artist said that the woman had won a sweepstakes but, in order to claim the supposed prize of $850,000, she had to send $813.56. The woman did not send any money.

Do not give money or personal information to anyone who calls you who you don’t already know.

If you are getting scam calls or high-pressure sales calls, report them to the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/scams.

You should also call your local police to report any suspicious phone calls or letters.

  • If you need to provide info to a company, look up the organization’s main office and call their official phone number.
  • Research the companies that you are using.
  • Do not click on pop-up ads online.
  • If you are entering your financial information online, be sure that the website is trustworthy and secure. For example, check that the address starts with https instead of just http.
