DuBois, PA – It’s almost time for a local boy to head out on the trip of a lifetime! 13-year-old Maddox Hyde has been fighting neuroblastoma since he was 6, and he says it’s his dream to visit Hawaii and make some memories with his family.

He leaves Tuesday for the 8-day trip.

Everyone at the Middle School was decked out in flower leis and grass skirts on Friday. A group of middle schoolers with ukuleles sang a special Hawaiian-themed song.

The students and teachers also shared poems and their best wishes for Maddox.

Maddox was born in Hawaii and lived there until he was 18 months old, but he wants to learn what it’s like. He’ll be visiting the Marine base where his family lived, going scuba diving, eating real Hawaiian food at a luau, enjoying the beautiful beaches and scenery, and spending time with his family.

Jamie’s Dream Team, an organization that helps provide sick kids with amazing trips, provided Maddox with plane tickets and the itinerary for his trip.

Many other local families and organizations donated to make Maddox’s dream come true, including students at the DuBois Middle School, churches, and the DuBois Humanitarian Riders.

Want to help? You can make a donation or purchase a t-shirt, with proceeds benefiting both Maddox Hyde and 7-year-old Brock Roy (who is battling leukemia). Call the DuBois Area School District (814-371-2700) or the DuBois City Police (814-765-1533) for more information about where to donate.
