Punxsutawney, PA – The last borough police dispatch center in Jefferson County will likely close within the next few months.
Punxsutawney Borough Council voted to close the Police Department Call Center, which would save them about $100,000. It comes as no surprise, as they had been planning on closing it for a while.
Jefferson County’s main dispatch center in Brookville will take on the extra workload, but they’ll have to add anywhere from three to five extra full-time dispatchers.
Although the center will likely be closed by the end of the year, it could take longer if the county can’t train the new dispatchers in time.
