Harrisburg, PA – Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over… That’s the reminder from state police and PennDOT as we head toward the end of summer, especially for Labor Day weekend.
Although DUI-related fatalities have fallen by a third over the last three decades, police would like to see a day when no one is hurt because of something so easily preventable.
During last year’s three-day Labor Day weekend enforcement, state police investigated 704 crashes statewide, including 61 crashes involving alcohol, and four alcohol-related fatal crashes.
Garnet Ninosky, safety press officer for PennDOT, says drunk driving is easy to prevent if you take the right steps.
Extra officers will be patrolling problem areas and conducting DUI checkpoints from Sept. 1 through 3. If alcohol is going to be a part of your celebrations, make sure you have a plan to get home safely.
If you find yourself impaired, you can always use the free SaferRide smartphone app to pinpoint your location and call a taxi or a trusted friend to come pick you up.
