Ridgway, PA – The two “suspicious deer” that were found in Ridgway on July 26 tested negative for Chronic Wasting Disease. CWD is a fatal disease that’s highly contagious among deer and elk.
The main concern right now is still that these two deer had tagged ears, which means that they either were released or escaped from a captive herd. CWD is found more often in captive deer, so the Pennsylvania Game Commission wants to make sure that all deer that are being bred remain inside a fence and away from other wild deer.
If you know where the two deer in Ridgway came from or if you have any other concerns about CWD, please call the Game Commission’s Northcentral Office at 570-398-4744, or 570-398-4745.
