DuBois, PA – Students head back to school at the end of this month, and 242 kids will be carrying a new backpack filled with supplies that were donated by the Stuff the Bus program at the DuBois Mall!

People throughout the community made donations throughout July, and volunteers joined together on Wednesday to sort the supplies and pack the bags with everything kids will need to start their year off on a good note.

Krista Peterson from the Gourmet Kitchen is one of the organizers. Although it was the first year for the event, she said it was beyond anyone’s expectations.

All of the backpacks will stay local. Originally all of them would go to just the DuBois Area School District. However, Krista says that, because they went above their goal, they were able to expand their reach.

Among the volunteers were parents, school faculty and staff, government officials, student athletes, and the DuBois Dream. Sonya Fetterhoff from Gardner’s Candies is another one of the main organizer, and she put the DuBois Dream to work.

A big thank you to everyone who donated or volunteered with Stuff the Bus this year! They’re hoping to fill twice the number of backpacks next year to help out even more kids.
