Treasure Lake, PA – Sandy Township Police are warning residents about a possible phone scam. On Friday, a 55-year-old Treasure Lake woman reported that she had received two phones calls from someone with an accent claiming to be from Penn Highlands DuBois.

The caller said that he was attempting to collect hospital bills. He requested personal information and wanted the woman to make a payment over the phone.

The woman recognized that it could be a scam and did not provide any information.

Be suspicious of anyone who is asking for personal, financial or account information over the phone. If you believe that the call could be legitimate, hang up and call back to the company’s official number.

You can find the real phone number on your bills, statements or on the company’s website.

In a case like this one where it is a local company, you might want to visit the company’s building in person to make sure that the right people are handling your payments.
