Punxsutawney, PA – A Punxsutawney man is facing charges for allegedly stealing prescription drugs from a group home.

The complaint first came to police on July 7 when a man told officers that someone had stolen his prescription medication from where he lived at a communal housing property on Beyer Avenue in Punxsutawney. Later that day, officers interviewed the people at the home.

32-year-old Joseph Gerg reportedly confessed to stealing the victim’s medication. Police say that Gerg told them he swallowed the Oxycontin and discarded the rest of the medication in a ditch, though officers recovered more medication from Gerg’s room.

Gerg is facing misdemeanor charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and intentional possession of a controlled substance. His preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 23.
