DuBois, PA – Volunteering is at the core of everything that Carol Foltz does, so it’s no surprise that she is the 2017 recipient of the Greater DuBois Chamber of Commerce’s annual Silver Ribbon Award. The award recognizes someone in the community who exemplifies community service and volunteerism, along with mentoring others to become the best person they can be.
Hundreds gathered at the ceremony at Lakeview Lodge yesterday to honor Carol. You can see photos and videos of the event on our Facebook page and website.
Cookie Jacobson, the chairperson for the Silver Ribbon Award, delves into the background of the winner each year, asking the recipient’s family members and friends to write personal letters.
Carol Foltz started the Senior Scholastic Challenge 30 years ago, then added a Junior version of challenge just 10 years later. The Scholastic Challenge was the first event in this area to allow students to compete and be awarded for their knowledge and mental skills. She’s known for making her famous lottery ticket boards to donate to events and constantly organizing another benefit dance or auction. Maybe most of all, she always encourages others to volunteer, often wrangling them into being part of an event before they even know it.
For Carol, volunteering was never about getting recognition, although she calls it her “guilty pleasure” because it made her feel good to know that she was helping others.
Congratulations to Carol Foltz, real estate agent for Coldwell Banker Developac Realty, volunteer extraordinaire, and the recipient of this year’s Silver Ribbon Award! We can’t think of a more worthy person.
