Pine Township, PA – A man from Illinois had to be flown via medical helicopter to a hospital after a freightliner crash late last night on Interstate 80 in Pine Township, Clearfield County.

Around 10:30 Tuesday night, the two freightliners were travelling on I-80, near mile marker 112.

Police say 63-year-old Andrzej Krol of Chicago was following too closely behind 70-year-old Aurel Cotrau of Seven Hills, Ohio. Krol’s freightliner rear-ended the tractor trailer driven by Cotrau.

Krol had to be extricated from his tractor trailer because its front end was severely damaged. Krol suffered injuries of unknown severity and was flown by helicopter to Altoona Hospital. Cotrau was not injured.

The westbound lanes of I-80 in the nearby area were shut down last night while first responders provided aid.
