Brookville, PA – Brookville Council last night approved a mutual aid agreement between the borough’s police department and Punxsutawney police.
Brookville Police Chief Jason Brown reported his department has formed an alliance to assist police in Punxsy, Clarion, Reynoldsville and Brockway when they each need backup. Punxsy council was the first to approve the agreement, with Clarion soon to follow. The agreement would also provide insurance to protect officers in the event of an injury when responding to incidents outside their own jurisdiction.

Council has referred a new tax incentive for the borough’s volunteer firefighters to its public safety committee. The state recently approved legislation that offers volunteer firefighters across the commonwealth a tax credit on their local real estate and income tax. The committee will ask the fire company to establish criteria on eligibility for the new program before being approved.
Council approved applying to Jefferson County for a share of the county’s non-entitlement Community Development Block Grant funding. The borough will seek funding for road improvements to Sandy Way, an alley that borders the borough and Belgiumtown near Sandy Lick Creek.
A public meeting will be held at 7 p.m., July 12 at the Dr. Walter Dick Park. An architectural design firm will present preliminary plans for improvements to the park and gather additional public input.
