Eldred Township, PA – A two-vehicle crash on Saturday in Eldred Township, Jefferson County, injured three people.

49-year-old Rodney Mealy of Leeper allegedly rear-ended a car driven by 39-year-old Irvin Pontious of Sigel. It happened just before noon on Saturday along Route 36 in Eldred Township.

Mealy was taken to the Brookville Area Hospital with minor injuries. He had not been wearing his seat belt. Pontious was life-flight via STAT6 Helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for serious injuries.

A passenger in his car, 37-year-old Renee Pontious of Sigel, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Both of them were wearing their seat belts.

The southbound lane of Route 36 was closed for about an hour after the crash on Saturday. Mealy is being charged with a traffic violation for the crash.
